My son is starting Kindergarten this year, and I am so nervous about him going to the public school we are zoned for!  They have terrible test scores, and I've heard the principle and staff aren't caring torwards the needs of the parents and the children!

Are you happy with your kids school?  If your child was zoned for a specific area, were you able to fight the system and get them into a school of your choice? What did you have to write in the letter to get them approved for the school you wanted your child to go to??

I do not like the school my son goes to and am trying to get a transfer as I write this but hear that the schools hate to do this.  So I am hoping everything will go well with the charter school I have been looking into.  I do know that if the school you are zoned for didn't make AYP (adequate yearly progress) they do offer the option of a different school that did make it.  So if that is the case with the school you are zoned for they should be sending a packet to you before the school year starts.

Thanks!  I sent in a letter of varience for the school of my choice, just waiting to see if he's approved!  Cross my fingers~  I think that unfortunately, they did make the AYP....don't know how, but they have.  Good luck with the charter school~ they don't have many of those close by around here.

So that is how you do it by sending a letter.  I had the hardest time getting anyone to tell me what to do?  My sons school made AYP last year but I am not sure about this year.  So if they don't we should still get the packet.  It is sad when we are hoping they don't make AYP.  LOL.

You're right about Charter schools if everything goes well this one is in the NW.

Thanks for asking!  Yes, actually!  We put in 3 zone variences at different schools we liked, and he got approved for one that has been great!  It wasn't the first school of my choice, but the one I've chosen is uniformed, so I love it!  I do have to fill out another zone varience by the end of the school year to be sure he'll make it into next year, but I have pretty high hopes that he will be accepted!  :)

How are you?  Hope things are going well for you!
