I didn't want to hijack the other thread so I thought I would post this note for those interested.  I am sorry if it is offensive to some or if it seems harsh. That is not at all my intent. These are just scriptures that mean something to me as a christian woman. Copied and pasted from my facebook notes :)

My children are my passion. I love my kids. I love the bond I get from nursing them. As a christian I never understand the large number of other christian mothers that look down on breastfeeding or won't even try it. I've had comments made about how breastmilk should be put into a bottle when at church or just overall the shock that I meet from some moms. I'm not saying all moms and I'm not just attacking christians however seeing as I am a christian I don't understand how other christian mothers do not have the same passion as I do. It is a blessing given to me by my heavenly Father to provide for my baby. How can one deny that what He made as being the best to offer for their baby? However, instead of coming across as this being my passion and my opinion...I'd like to share what the Bible says about it

Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people [is become] cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

The tongue of the sucking child sticks to the roof of his mouth for thirst: the young children ask bread, and no man breaks it to them.
Lamentation 4:3-4

Interestingly enough. Ostrich mothers typically are not very "motherly" will hurl their own young to danger, harm them to get out of danger themselves and will often completely abandon their young. Is God saying a mother is CRUEL for not giving suck to their young ones? Hrmmm...sounds to me like he is!

Lets take another look at what is said about nursing...

Many people confuse this verse with another about the end times and tribulation. I would like to point out that these are different verses and are referencing 2 different things. Therefore this verse is completely relevant to a nursing mother, the life of children and the state of our world that we live in today

And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.
Luke 26-29

In particular this last verse...Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck. Are we not in those days? Women rather have their careers and money and their breast implants than to bare children and to nurse them. Is it not a shame and hurtful that Christ had to lament such a thing on the way to his death?

What does He say in praise of a mother that provides for her children?

Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:
Genesis 29:25

But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherisheth her children:
1 Thessalonians 2:7

But thou [art] he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope [when I was] upon my mother's breasts.
Psalms 22:9

and this one really gets me...

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19

My baby has a need which he supplied by giving me the ability to provide her with nourishment. Is he not gracious and just?

In another verse he condemns those that do harm to others. This is among them
They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.

They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.
Job 24:9 and 13

and for those that use the "go to the bathroom because it isn't appropriate for public" excuse?

Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
Joel 2:16

These are but a few verses. The Bible is filled with them. I suppose this is just another reason I am so passionate about the topic and I wish more christian women would take the time to appreciate what the Lord has blessed her with. The ability to bond and provide nourishment to their children.

I have always wondered how, last I heard, 85% of the population believes in God, yet so few people believe in their bodies ability to birth and nourish a baby. Doesnt make any sense to me...

Are you nursing in church?  I've never had anyone other than my MIL express any form of disapproval of breastfeeding.  I've nursed in the church office, but never in the pew.  A friend from church has one of those "I Make Milk! What is Your Superpower" bumper stickers on her van.   I've seen her nurse in the baby room, but she has mastered the use of a sling and is completely private about it.  Most people don't pay enough attention to know what is going on.

Absolutely wonderful! I BF until it wasn't possible (they stopped latching on right, I'd cry at the thought of feeding them, and even then I pumped until they were cracked and bleeding) and I didn't care where I was or what I was doing, yes I'd throw a blanket over my shoulder, but being the strong believer I am, if someone commented or looked at me funny I'd simply ask "I don't scoff at you for eating a cheeseburger in public, do I? Is my child not good enough to eat in public either?" That usually shut them up pretty quick. :)

Wow.  I actually associate nursing with God too!  You did a great job.

I know there is a loving creator because He bent my arm in the proper place to nurse and cuddle my babies while I nursed.  He also placed the breast in that position so that I could gaze into my chilfdrens eyes while they nursed.

I agree.  I felt very  blessed indeed when I nursed my children.  It is always a joy to me to be a part of his plan.
