Last summer my two brother's and I all got together. My oldest brother doesn't have a wife or any kids he knows my kids and knows that one is picky. My middle brother has a wife and two kids and I have a husband and 3 kids. Several things were going on at breakfast time and I has asked my boys if they wanted cereal for breakfast. My oldest asked for eggs. He is a very picky eater and likes his food a certain way. When he asked I said yes and started to go into the kitchen. My sister-in-law started in on me telling me I shouldn't cater to him gave me a hard time giving him what he wanted for breakfast. She flat out told me that I was not a short order cook.
Well yes, actually, I am. I make the boys what they will eat for breakfast in the morning. Lunch is usually whatever they want. Dinner they usually eat what we eat with some exceptions. I don't want to make them something in the mornings they won't eat and go to school hungry. For a long time my oldest only wanted eggs and cinnamon toast for breakfast. Half the time my younger one wouldn't eat it and wanted PB&J. So I would make eggs for one and a sandwich for the other. How hard is that. Sometimes for dinner if my husband and I want something different or special I will make us a meal and give them hot dogs. The baby usually eats something different as she only has her four front teeth. So yes I do sometimes make three different things for dinner.
I am very happy that her kids will eat anything she serves them, but mine won't. Tonight was a free for all. They had hot dogs, we had left overs. About 2 hours after dinner my oldest asked for a sandwich. Then of course the younger one wants one too. I have no problem making them. They are growing boys. We do have rules about food, if a meal is prepared they will eat it, but I am not going to let them starve. Most of the time we make food they like, but once in a while we need some variety.
Hi, my name is Mom, and I am a short order cook.

My kids didn't eat what I served them until I started expecting it. Yes you fight them for a few days and then it is over. I think kids do what you expect.
If you are happy to be a short order cook then go for it. It is no one's business but yours.
