Because we have sue happy people in this world. The reason why doctors dont want to do VBAC's is our own fault. Doctors are scared out of their minds that they are going to get sued if something were to happen during a VBAC. Even if there is only a small chance. You can bet that A LOT of women would sue if something were to go wrong with a VBAC. A LOT of women would be more then happy to blame the doctor if a uterus was to rupture. Why cant we understand that doctors are not God, they cannot control everything that happens.
It is sickening to read post after post of people being upset over the rise in c sections. Blaming it on the incompletence of doctors. North Americans are sue happy people, and its because of that, that the c section rate is on the rise. If we want c section rates to go down and vaginal/vbac's rates to rise, WE have to take responsibility for our own decisions. We cant place blame on doctors when WE decide that a VBAC is the way to go. We have to be informed enough and weigh the pros and the cons. Until we get past our sue happy selves the rise of c sections is here to stay.

REALLY!!!
And it has nothing to do with the fact that a C-section takes less than an hour as opposed to waiting 12 or 24 or 36+ hours for a laboring mother? That labor is inconvenient for a doctor, and C-sections are quick, easy... and pay a whole hell of a lot more than a vaginal birth?? Nah CANT possibly be that. Oh NOT to mention the insurance companies!!!
There are plenty of women who take responsibility for their own births, WE stay home to birth our babies so WE arent victims of the doctors little fear games. But let me guess, you scoff at women who take responsibility for their births in that manner right?
Yes. I agree. BE RESPONSIBLE. Stay home. If you are having a normal and healthy pregnancy stay home! OB's are trained SURGEONS, they are trained in the way of the SCALPEL. Quick in and out. They arent trained in patience, or caring, or allowing nature to take its course in NORMAL labor and birth.
Get a midwife. Stay home. Reduce doctors' liability everywhere.
Wendy, you are one angry woman. The OP actually made a valid point. Why are you so ugly about this? Have your children your way, but don't slam people for their choices. You have got some huge chip on your shoulder...
And while you may be somewhat correct in some circumstances, your generalizations are completely wrong.
LOL Wendy.. do you have a little bottled anger?? That was quite the tangent you just went on. While you have some valid reasons c sections do occur.. there are times that doctors are selfish as far as convenience goes, and also as far as how much they get paid. Not EVERY c section occurs because the doctor is scared of being sued.. but a lot of them do.
As for your second paragraph.. I have to laugh hysterically. Nothing in what I wrote above says that Im against people having home births. Nor does it say that I scoff at them. I am fine on whatever way you want to have your baby. Stay home, have an unmedicated birth at the hospital, have a medicated birth at the hospital, or have a c section do whatever you feel is alright. I cannot, nor do I want to decide for other people whats best for them.To each her own.. Im supportive of it all.
I just hate watching person after person bitch about not being able to have VBAC's when in reality we are part of the reason that causes doctors not to want to do them. We all want to pretend that if something goes wrong in a VBAC that is HAS to be the doctors fault.. it couldnt possibly be something that the doctor couldnt control. So of course lets get on our sue happy shoes and sue him and the hospital for all hes worth... because thats the reality of what happens.
