This sentence is uttered in my house on fairly regularly.  Why you ask?  This is how the story goes.

Years ago, in the first year of our marriage, my husband's paternal grandmother requested that we pick out our Christmas gifts.  She would bring out mountains of catalogs for us to page through.  We were to write the items, product number, page number, name of catalog, and description of the item of our choosing.  We all knew that once an item was selected that we were going to receive that/them as our gift.

My husband and I had a conference.  He had been eyeing bread machines for a while.  Nothing could be better than fresh bread.  It sounded good to me too.  We knew that the price of the machine was high and didn't want grandma to go through the expense of buying two gifts for us, so we combined.  (Grandma didn't like that)

Christmas, that year, we opened our bread machine with great joy.  We went to the store and bought kits to make bread machine bread.  We also looked up recipes and had a lot of fresh bread for about a month. Then we put it away for counter space.

Six months later we get our bread machine out again.  This time with more of a need not to be wasteful.  We made a valiant effort to supply up and have fresh bread.

We have now been married for ten years in April.  I think that bread machine has come out at the most, two more times for one use.

When ever we look at making a new purchase on a toy we would like the question comes up.  Will this new toy be like the bread machine?  Will we use the hot tub, pool, gps, kitchen gadget, meat smoker, etc.  ?

What is your bread machine?

My espresso machine, I used it a few times but it now sits in the hall cupboard taking up space keeping the bread machine company.

I got a mandoline. So I could slice stuff easily and not take off a sliver of finger nail because I can't remember to curl my fingers under, the way a good chef does. It turns out that I should have splurged on one from Williams Sonoma, because the one I got at Target is shite and is too flimsy to handle slicing tomatoes and onions.

ROFLMAO

Me and my mom talked about this a few weeks ago. She said everyone went through a bread machine craze in the 90's, and now there's hundreds of bread makers collecting dust around the country.

My husband bought me one for Valentine's Day. We don't eat sandwiches that often, but it's not difficult to whip up a fresh loaf when we want them. We haven't bought bread at all this year (I made bread by hand before that with mostly disastrous results) and I can honestly say it makes us feel a lot better about ourselves, lmao. We don't eat totally organic and non-processed, but store-bought bread just sounds horrible to me now that we make it at home.

Our "bread machine" is the ice cream maker. Poor thing, it knows not what it does.

Hmm My bread maker would have to be my Waffle Iron/sandwich maker, though recently I have been breaking it out for Grilled cheese sandwiches.  The one upside to it is I got it for free.

The fondue pot.  I don't think we have used it once in the entire ten years we have been married.

My husband wanted a breadmaker. It was used only a few times, mostly because it was a huge mess to clean up and the bread always seemed to fall in the middle. Now I bake bread myself by hand and it is much better.

The other "breadmaker" in our house is one of those foot spa things. My sister in law got it for me when I was pregnant. I used it once. It felt weird and wasn't worth all the mess of filling it with water and cleaning it up after. It has been gathering dust for going on five years now. I keep meaning to give it away but I just haven't done it yet. She loved hers and used it all the time, but I am just not a foot person.

Our mandolin is also kinda sorta useless. I wanted one for so long, and I felt extremely guilty when I didn't use it all the time. I did make a couple loaves of zucchini bread with it, but UGH it was so hard to use! I hate grating stuff anyway, but using that awkward hand shield made it so much more difficult. Plus it's a bitch to clean.
