Musings by a mama in Maine

I am so proud, I just wanted to share these photos. They show me going through the transition phase of labor, the pushing/birthing stage, and then with our newborn, Corben, after his home birth on March 8. My wonderful sisters Erin and Lindsay were the camera crew. The photos aren't graphic but they show the range of positions that helped me during labor and birth, and the positions my husband took to help me.

Kneeling on the floor, supported by Mike sitting in the rocking chair.

I spent a while pacing the floor, stopping to be held up by Mike while he reminded me to breathe deeply during the contractions.

Sitting unsupported in this position helped me for a while. I was listening to James Taylor on the iPod and really zoning out between contractions.

Probably listening to "Going to Carolina in my mind..." which was the ULTIMATE labor song!

I believe this was a concerned look between Mike and my mom when they started realizing how far along things were.

This was the time between transition and pushing.

Pushing. My mom was wiping my neck and face with a cold cloth, and giving me drinks between pushes. I didn't force a single push; I waited for each one as my body did its own thing. Sometimes pushes came quite close together, sometimes I got a short break to recharge my energy.

My mom wiping my face. It felt SO good.

After a while, Mike came around to support me in front of me. I remember him saying he'd like to see the OTHER side of his wife for a bit. :)

One of the final pushes.

Rehydrating after my intense workout!!

Holding my sweet baby boy, Corben Andre. The only time anyone else had held him, by this point, was when I was helped from the floor to the bed.

Big Brother Sebastian meeting his new brother for the first time. Corben was less than an hour old.

First family photo!

Impressive and congratulations on a successful birth.  I wish I had taken photos of me in labor, but it was just me and my DH, lol.

That was so beautiful Nathalie. I know it was a long intense labor but you did such an amazing job. I feel such joy when I know that my friends are home birthing with their husband in full support. I sometimes wonder if my hubby would have been able to do that. Our bodies are made for this no drugs, no monitors, no bright lights...

So proud of you my friend.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us Nathalie.  The pictures are so beautiful and special.  The first few where Mike is holding you and you two just seem so connected and focused just took my breath away,  and the one where you are listening to your music is just so peaceful and you look gorgeous and you are simply glowing.  I know I have already said this to you,  but I am just so proud of you and so happy that you were able to do this the way you planned.  :)
