I have this case of writer's block that I'm trying to work through and asked DH for his opinion on the chapter last night. When he came back he told me this. It was nothing like what I ever expected, he doesn't talk about combat at all, except when he's had one too many. I mulled this over for the rest of the night last night and this morning I made it my new prologue.
"See all you can really do is hope and pray.
You've got less then two seconds to decide,
and then you hope and you pray that the decisions
you make keep your boys alive. Either way, though,
live or die, you'll relive that decision everyday for
the rest of your life thinking maybe there was a
better way it could've went down, but, at the
end of the day, really the only wrong decision
that can be made in combat is not making one
at all."
