Nursing "In Public" - a musing, alternative experience.

I went to a gathering last year.  That was THE most comfortable place to nurse in public.  IF anyone bothered to notice, they would just smile, or make a comment about  my happy, healthy baby...  Very laid back, I guess alot like hippies, but also punks and so forth...  It was so nice...  There were other mamas there, who breastfed, and it wasn't like a DON'T LOOK AT ME, I'M BREASTFEEDING!  it was just, breastfeeding.  We'd do it while we were eating, sitting around a fire, hanging out, walking through the woods, whatever, whenever, wherever... 

It wasn't uncomfortable or awkward...   I had a guy yell, "SHOW ME YOUR BOOBS!!" while I was nursing, everyone laughed because the guy actually had tourrettes and couldn't help it...  It was such a non-issue, there was a void of any "taboo"...  I had another nursing mom (we became very good friends) ask me if we could swap babies in case she wanted a "moms night out" (her daughter was 18 months)...  I'm telling you, laid back and easy, THIS is the world I wish I could live in on a daily basis lol...  Not the one where we're all up in arms over who saw a flash of flesh...

We were walking down the trail one day, one girl was wearing her top, but it was untied and therefore she was exposed from the neck down (it was miserably hot in FL), she had my son on her shoulders and was singing and sort of swaying so he would giggle.  Well one lady was embarassed by the sight of her breasts, made a big deal about tying her top back for her (like Here let me HELP you) and the woman carrying my son, said Haha, it's fine, don't worry about it... She proceeded to tie it on for her, and pat her back and walk away.  Former topless woman just shook her head cocked to the side and smiled...  No reason for her to force her tits on someone, of course?  NO reason for someone to be so blindsided by the breast that she had to physically touch her to make her own universe a more comfortable place?

I do not understand how freaked out people get about seeing some BREAST. its silly isnt it? good journal post. thankyou for sharing
