I just finished watching "Food Inc" with the hubby. I am shocked at how the major food companies are allowed to do what they please in America. We allowed them to elect people who worked for and owned these food companies into our congress, Supreme Court, and the very organizations that are supposed to regulate these businesses! How is it that the FDA has no power against these corporations? What is the FDA good for then? They are allowed to run their factories with non documented workers which they dispose of when they reach the 10 yr. mark with the company because they either are sick from the conditions they worked in or they are due for a pay raise! They ban photos of the factories and do not allow any one to speak of what goes on inside. This is ridiculous! They can even put you in jail in some states if you speak badly of their meat!! What is worse is how they are allowed to destroy farmers who do not bend to their will. They take them to court and tie them up in the legal system until they are too broke to keep fighting! This is so sad to me....they are not allowed to farm the way they want...they have to follow their rules. They are forced to produce product at whatever cost. No matter how inhumane they are to the animals or how much chemicals the put on their crops. It was horrible.....they feed the animals so much crap to make them fatten up quickly that these poor animals can't even stand for a minute because their legs can't support their weight! I am saddened that I am a part of the system that has allowed these companies to grow. I have found it quicker and cheaper to buy fast food. For $10 dollars my family of four could eat and feel full. I could not walk into the market and buy food for $10 to make a meal that would do the same. I can't fathom how I allowed myself to not think of how the fast food companies could have a dollar menu...of course that wasn't quality food! I want to really change my ways. I just need to figure out how...on a budget. I am sure there is a way, I just need to find it. I figure that even though food will be more expensive in the long run it will be worth it. My girls are still little and I can change my negative ways in time to not affect them. I have to start my research and my new positive habits. I will definitely not be able to take the easy way out anymore!

I will definitely look into those! Thanks for the recommendations. I went to a farmers market the other day and I really liked it but it was pretty expensive. I wish organic wasn't so expensive! I guess I will have to just work over my budget somehow. I have been getting a lot of non meat recipes from the cooking groups on here so that should cut down the cost of buying so much meat weekly. I also started a vegetable garden with my daughters this week...we are growing cucumbers, squash, zuccini, tomatoes, and green onion. I am trying to think of anything to prevent me from going back to my old ways..........
