ah, dang cm, i have to rewrite this. okay i need help planning my sons 4th birthday party.
this is his first real party and i want it to be nice (not only for him, though i know he will love it, it's being held at a place with a ton of bounce houses, which he loves) but also, my dh's family that will be attending are so picky, judgemental and have no problem talking behind peoples back, so i am hoping to make this not look cheap and be really nice. it's not a cheap place, for 3 hours there (and that's an extra cost since it's usually 2 hours) it'll cost 550.00, with food for the kids, nothing for the adults, so another 150 for pizza and soda for the adults (now, dh's family is guatemalan and several have already made it clear that they aren't happy with pizza, but tough, i'm american and it's being held at a place and they need to accept that it's pizza - they actually told dh that he should have it at a hall bc it's cheap and they can make spanish food to be served) ah, inlaws (this does not include my mil who is in guatemala, she of course would tell everyone straight to their face to get over it or not to come).
anyway, ds loves Team Umizoomi. It's new to nick and there is almost nothing that you can buy. So, i did find cute invitations on ebay and the edibly cake toppers. has anyone ever used these? do they work, taste good, easy to put on a cake? here is the image that i was thinking of getting: okay, can't do that, but here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/Team-UmiZoomi-edible-cake-topper-image-frosting-sheet_W0QQitemZ330405583888QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4cedb51c10#ht_876wt_939
anyway, anyone have any suggestions on how i can make a team umizoomi theme work when you can barely find anything to buy?
Comments:
Not sure if you've already had the birthday party or not, but as far as those cake toppers go, i've seen them used and they are great images to put on a cake if there's no toy toppers available. Kudos on finding it because i'm having a Team Umizoomi party for my soon to be 3 year old in August and i'm having trouble finding stuff.
Second, i'm from a latin family too and they're always going to talk no matter what you do. They probably get enjoyment out of your efforts and if you spend your whole life trying to please them all you're going to do is stress yourself out. Ever seen Everybody Loves Raymond? lol! Anyway, as long as your child loves it, that's all that matters, everyone else can eat or not eat, they can enjoy or not enjoy, and probably no matter what you do they're going to find something to pick at.
As far as the party itself, if you have a lil girl, buy her a patterned dress and hat/headband and make it like millis, or have a lil blue jumpsuit and shapes belt made for your son if you have a boy, to make him look like geo. That'll probably be the most fun of all and most women know someone who can sew. You can always opt for making handmade paper candy baskets in different shapes and colors for each of the children to go with your theme. Things like that make kids happy and that's who the party is for, it's for your child and his/her friends and they are the only ones that matter. ^_^ Hope it's great!
i realize this was posted over a year ago, but what all did you do for the team umizoomi party. My son is wanting team umizoomi for his party, but i haven't been able to find anything (except printouts from nickjr.com). any suggestions??

I used to host birthday parties..your right, they are very expensive for just a few hours. Normally they only come with pizza and soda, I assume because it is easy to serve.
Perhaps you can rent out a place and bring in your own food. The side of the family that has a problem with pizza, make a list of names and everyone brings in a dish they like!!!
