While my husband and I were in Germany, we were living it up. We had plenty of money then but we are paying for it now. We knew something was wrong with my husband's paycheck. We asked a few of his superiors about it and they insisted it was fine. Because of their laziness, we ended up being overpayed 11,000 by the Army. So as soon as we got to WA state they started taking money away from us-750 dollars a month! We began to use our credit cards for gas and food-we felt like we had no choice. We already had about 2000 on a CC from a plane trip home. Long story, short, we ended up in debt big time; everything was maxed out basially. Finally, my husband reenlisted because they said they could extend the payments that way-they reduced it to 450 a month. This is where we are now. But because we accrued so much debt we could not pay all of our credit cards. My credit score went from a 740 to a 520.
I am so thankful we found out about Dave Ramsey. Our financial situation has changed immensely and looking back I wonder, where did all that money we had in Germany go? We have nothing to show for it but a couple of computers. Now, I can see where our money is going. We have paid off my 300+ a month car and 3 credit cards.
Yes, it is very tough-you need discipline; I have slipped up but I keep thinking about how good it is going to feel to be able to scream "I AM DEBT FREE!!!" . I am hopeful but still longing for that gazelle intensity!
THANKS ERICA! YOU ARE A SWEETHEART!
