Litter Free on Earth Day!

Today is Earth Day!
To celebrate this day, our elementary school held an assembly
in which we also announced the winners our our Litter Free Lunch Challenge.
Recycle Man visited our school. A few lucky kids had to pick from an assortment of items on a table. They had to figure out what could be recycled and what couldn't. Recycled items would 'stick' to Recycle Man.
They had a blast covering Recycle Man with recyclable items!
We saw a video montage covering the past 7 months of our Litter Free Lunch Challenge. All the kids loved seeing their pictures on the big screen!
We also learned an Earth Day song and dance.
On Tuesday we had all 700 kids sign their names on green or brown hand cutouts. We used those hands to contruct a tree. This showed the kids by being LITTER FREE, they all had a "HAND" in saving the Earth.
Last but not least, we announced the winners of our Litter Free Lunch Challenge for each grade. Each class won a pizza party!
We collected a total of 900lbs of trash overall.
The Kindergarten winning class reduced their trash by 34%!
The 1st grade winning class reduced their trash by 53%!
The 2nd grade winning class reduced their trash by 50%!
Congratulations to all!
The program was a huge success and really raised the awareness of all students. Containers are now COOL!
