I'm so excited and proud of myself!

I just made my first home-made scented soy candles.

I really want to be able to sell enough of them to give up my job and be able to stay home with the kids full time.  I would need to sell about 10 candles a day (monday - friday) in order to replace the income I have now.  Just 10 candles a day! That seems like a very do-able thing, don't you think?

My sister is pumped up about it.  She just LOVES candles. She and her daughter can't wait to be amung my first customers.  She also has a hair salon booth where she wants to put samples of my candles and refer customers to me - awesome!  What a great sister.

My neighbor also wants to be my first customer.  She's such a sweet-heart.

I have to start slow because I don't have much start up money.  I've been looking into different ways to get the word out online, but I have to have a decent supply before I open up an online store.

I've been trying to think of as many ways as I can to get "word of mouth" advertising going in my area, with my friends & family....

I do have an "edge" that other candle places don't have - at least in my opinion.  First: they are home-made, not from some big company.  Second: All the candles I will be making are going to be soy.  Better for the environment and not all that soot like with traditional paraffin candles.  Third: I'm going to offer a semi-custom option for those who like their candles to match the rest of their decor... let me explain.

Every Lavender candle I've ever seen is light purple.  Same with Lilac scented ones.  Vanilla candles are always a creamy white color...  Well what if you LOVE Lavender but you have a green living room?  I'm going to offer my customers the choice to have a green Lavender scented candle if they so choose!

I'm open for any tips or comments you may have on:

1. how to get the word out

2. popular or favorite scents to invest in first

3. getting the word out once I've got an online store up and running

4. anything else you can think of that may help.

I'm really excited about this, like I said.  I really want to be able to sell 10 candles or more a day.

I've always wanted to be a SAHM, and this is my ticket - so any advice that can help me achieve that dream/goal is most welcome.

Thanks for reading/listening - have a great day!

I am sure you will do well.  Selling 10 candles a day is a great goal.  Craft shows and consignment shops should be a good avenue for you.  Be sure to tell everyone you know and use social media to get the word out!  Love the idea of color coordinating with the scents!  Get the word out before you open an online store.  Work locally and take orders to start making money.  Take photos and share online.  Good Luck!

Thanks mjackson :)   it's nice to hear words of encouragment.  I've got a few candles in a small variety of scents now: French Vanilla, Cranberry Citrus, April Fresh Linen, and White Tea & Ginger.

My fiance is going to be taking a few with him to his mom's house this weekend when he pops in to say "hi" to her.  She loves the Fresh Linen...

It's hard for me to hold in the excitment and be conservative when I'm so pumped  up about this, but I just keep telling myself that taking it slow is the best for now.

The kids love it too.  They all want to help.  I'm such a nervous Nelly though. I don't want them to get burned by the hot wax.

Some fragrance suppliers have "Zodiac" and "Feng Shui"-labeled scents, which would be great for your customized color/scent idea.  I know www.saveonscents.com carries them along with about 10,000 other scents.  They will send you samples too, so you know what you're getting before you buy a lot of it.

Good luck to you!
