This may sound strange and it probably will to some of you but I have to go for it!
Once upon a time many yrs. ago there were two families who lived side by side in a duplex apartment. One was really shy and timid. The other really outgoing and not afraid of anything or anybody. She was strong and "wide open" all the time. So, we met one day thru her being sick . She sent her 3 yr. old daughter over to get me. I went over and helped her b/c she was pregnant with her son and she was throwing up, ect. I thought nothing more about it, just being neighborly. It has been about 45 yrs. since that day and we have been friends ever since.
I call my friend SQUIRRLEY and she found her NUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me! She always use to say, "Yr. not right!" and I would say I know and yr not either to put up with me!!!!! We would just laugh. I was 18 and she was 19. We had a screened in porch that went across the duplex and two big cement bars in front on both sides of the walkway by the steps. We use to party some and we would get on those "bars of cement" (for a better word) She had one and I had one! We listened to the Monkeys and go-go danced!!!! We did alot of silly fun things together in 6 months. My Shirley Squirrel (Suckie) dyed my hair blonde one time and were drinking and we let the dye stay on too long. I had rubber band hair but I loved it cuz it was BLONDE and I always wanted to be blonde and have MORE FUN! Looking back I can say I had more fun with my friend Shirley than anyone else in the world!!!!!! One time we went seaching for white pants in the winter time b/c where we went dancing they had the black lights and we wanted to be SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With our husbands of course!
By now you know that I am the NUT! One time we were out at the club and I had on a blonde pageboy wig and I was doing the dance where you shake yr head, (can't remember) anyway I shoke it so hard my wig fell off in the middle of the dance floor. I was so embarressed. I left my husband still dancing,, picked up my wig and went to the bathroom...............my friend Shirley right behind me. We laughed and laughed about that. We butted heads in the bathroom one time when I got sick and she threw up. She was trying to get in to help me and the door hit my head or hers, who can remember that far back, the little details. By now you probably think we were both NUTS but not Shirley she was always the SANE one. She was and still is my BEST FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!
She has been having heart issues and I just wanted to write something for her to make her laugh and maybe cry. She is not only a best friend to alot, she is a BEST MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, GREAT GRANDMOTHER AND WIFE!!!!!! At Mothers day I wanted to salute her!
That was a long time ago. Since then we have been BORN AGAIN and filled with the spirit of God. We danced in the world and we have danced in the spirit and I like the Spirit the best.
I could tell you alot of things that would make you laugh but now I want to tell you something that might make you cry. I come from a small town to the big city and I lelt my fathers house and went to my husbands house, He worked 2nd shift and I was very lonely, I had no friends or family around the first 6 months of my married life. No outlet.............until I met my friend Shirley, She has been there for me when I had no one. She has filled a place in my heart than no-one can fill. She is not only my best friend she is my sister in every sense of the word.
I love you Shirley Squirrely and I SALUTE YOU AND HONOR YOU TODAY AND FOREVER YOU WILL BE IN MY HEART.
Forever we wil be in Heaven together!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (don't forget to ck my hair and makeup if I go first)
Love,
Carolyn
