My son is 3 years old.  He is a good boy (usually lol), he's cute as anything I've ever seen before, and he is speech delayed.

When he was born, his tongue was tied.  I tried everything to get someone, anyone to clip it.  They all kept telling me everything would be fine.  He was eating and there were no problems with speech, because he wasn't talking yet anyways.  I kept thinking..."Ummm...he WILL be!"  And I couldn't for the life of me, figure out, why in the world, I had to wait for him to have speech problems.  Doesn't that exacerbate the problem, if he learns his words wrong?

Fast forward a year.  He's talking just fine, blowing kisses, everything a 1 year old does.  All the sudden, a few months later, it all STOPS.  He still tries to talk, he still can't stick his tongue out, and he is frustrated!

At age 2, I finally figure out that there are programs available for him, so I put him in the one at the best school around and the Speech Therapist takes one look at his tongue, and tells me it's the worst she has ever seen!  It was literally all the way to the tip of his tongue.  He had it stretched as far as it would go, and it wasn't working!  The therapist told me to do everything I could to get someone to say yes to clipping it.

I took him to a Dr. that specializes in that kind of thing.  He took one look at it as well, after hearing my story, and told him to bring Drake in the next Tuesday!  FINALLY someone has seen his struggles to just TALK!

He clips Drake's tongue, and it takes forever for Drake to figure out that he can even just stick his tongue OUT!  Poor baby!!!!  His speech picked up overnight it seemed!  I got cable and internet (internet so I could go to school and cable for the kids) thinking that at least I don't have to watch the same damn movies over and over.

What I noticed about a month later is that Drake is TALKING....  Watching television has taught him words that he wouldn't learn while talking to us!  He now can sing most of the Wonder Pets theme, Kissing You by the girl from ICarly, Spongebob, and quite a few others.  It was AMAZING!

What brought me to write this journal is, there are LOTS of kids out there with their tongues tied....and the Doctor's don't want to do anything about it unless you BF (I didn't BF, I FF and that is MY choice...just FYI...), and even when their tongues are fine, some kids are very behind in speech.

My advice?  Don't give up, sometimes no matter how hard you try to work with them, they need someone else!  Look into all the special "classes" that they have for your children!  A lot of my son's problems were solved by a Dr, and by other things, but those teachers were a Godsend to me.  They answered a LOT of questions about things I was worried about, and put my mind at ease!

If you got through this, thanks for reading!
