It is getting so much easier to navigate in my sewing area that I want to get completely finished. I have spent most of today sewing as is the tradition--I like to get BOM's done right away so I don't forget. We were gone virtually all day Saturday, so today was all I've had. I still have some piles to sort out and get put away, mostly paper, but still, I'm able to be productive again. I finished my niece's quilt in time for her graduation party yesterday and now Megan's quilt is in basting and stabilizing, so I should get that done in the next week or so, I hope. I have continued to try to finish up a few UFO's along the way too. I only have one new picture, but it in no way conveys the absolute improvement I am seeing and feeling! Even my book case has been gone through so I can actually get to the books. I had so much piled up in front of the books and on top of them, I couldn't find what I wanted or I couldn't get them out without a major catastrophe! Scroll down for the shot of my craft center.
Over the past two years, it has just become a mess and I have been trying to figure out what to do. I didn't have money to spare to buy anything, so I've been trying to figure out how to get a handle on my room. First, I had to deal with all the papers--patterns, financial statements, receipts, you name it, I had it in piles everywhere undealt with. I have worked quite a bit the last few weeks trying to sort it all out. It is so bad that I have worked for 15 or 20 min here or there and just got so discouraged that I did the Scarlette O'Hara thing and decided that tomorrow was another day.
Yesterday, I was asked by DH to go to Sam's and stock up for the weekend. As I shopped, I found my break through. They have a Cropper Hopper look alike for $30. I got it and dug in. When I put all my scrapbooking supplies in that, I suddenly had something to store other things in...$30 and 20 min to assemble!

Now I could rearrange and combine my scrapbooking, painting and framing supplies together and my sewing/embroidery stuff separate. I had been using a craft table, but it isn't sturdy enough to cut or punch. It has a lot of wasted space beneath and it sticks out so far, it's difficult to get to the furnace room on the other side.

So, I pulled it out and put one of my utility/fold up tables up with my old sewing cabinet beneath it and although I don't yet have everything put away, you get the idea:

The Iris quilt is coming down and I'm moving a shelf into it's place. Should have done that rather than mess around so much on here, but hey, it's a holiday weekend, right?
So, here is the final result:

Another problem I've had is my computer station. It has not room to work once you put the monitor on the top and all the usb's/surge protector. I've had a monitor holder, but had not previously been able to figure out how to use it as I had no place to clamp it on...enter the bookcase next to it. I had dismissed it as too fragile, but a second look today and yea! It works!

I now have a box for my stuff that needs to be shredded and that craft table? It now has a new home next to my sewing machine:

I now can put my embroidery threads and hoops where I can get to them easier. My peg board must move, but the shelf at the upper left must get moved to where my iris wallhanging is first. the clear box to the left of the peg board was empty when I put my scrapping supplies in the paper tower, so now I have a reasonably air tight space for my stabiliers, very important for the water solubles...My machine case will get moved too--like I said, I'm not finished, but it's already easier to walk around this place!
I'm very excited that I've made so much progress the past two days.
Comments:
Stiina: wonderful. I get to make my daughter's room into my own sewing space soon. I am taking her to Texas next week, then the planning and doing will begin. I have asked for a new floor first, take the carpet out and give me some wood. I got an okay from my hubby on that. Next will come the sewing machine table/cabinet. I am exciting. Your space is looking fabulous! Keep up the good work girl!

Wow can you stand a drive down to Maryland to help me do the same. I have no idea where to start. You did a superb job.
