For the past 3 years my boys & I have enjoyed the free family movies at Regal Cinemas. Last year we added in another local theater. In total we spent every Tuesday & Wednesday at the movie theater and spent only the cost of the gas to get there. I even took my own snacks & drinks! Since I can't keep these fun finds to myself, here's a link I found that should cover everyone (at least in the US) http://freebies.about.com/od/familyactivities/tp/free-summer-movies.htm
Another fun freebie is http://www.kidsbowlfree.com/, every week the kids get coupons for free bowling and for a small fee the adults can be added to. We only participated in this once last summer since the shoe rental cost got too high. But if you invest in the shoes, it's definately a fun family outing.

i agree on the bowlign one. our closest center was in liverpool and 25 min. away (it was in the no easy way to get to it spot). then shoe rental that is normally $1 jumped to $3 for the program/summer. we paid for John/I/my brothers to bowl, but NEVER used it. I spent 90% of the summer without printer ink :(
