Ashland restaraunt discriminates againt autistic child

     I live in Ashland Ohio and have a four year old daughter who has autisim.  Today after church my husband and I took our daughter and our son who is two, to a near by restaraunt called Keli's Deli. We have eaten there many times as have my parents and some friends if theirs.  Today, we went there expecting to have a nice family luch before I had to leave for work and due to to the fact that our kids were hungry and tierd, our daughter, who is autistic, was not behaviing in a calm manner.  She was seated beside me and crying, and making slight grunting noises that are common for children with this disorder, due to their inability to speak well and handle social settings.  I promptly picked her up, and held her on my lap while trying to sooth her and calm her down.  The waitress brought out the kids plates and I fed Autumn while on my lap.  She was still grumpy after eating but she was on my lap and just whimpering and saying"Night night".  My husband got up to pay and the waitress informed him that the owner does not want us to bring Autumn in the restaraunt ever again because of her disruptive behavior.  My husband explained that she has autism and can't help her behavior.  The waitress said that she has seen other autisic kids who do not act that way.  She went on to say that they have had other children with disabilities come in that have bigger  problems than our daughter and that they behave well.  My husband and I were flabergasted and outraged at this insult againt our daughter.  She does have a handicap, she is disabled and can not control her behavior all of the time.  She actucally is fairly mild compared to some autisic children.  We feel that this was a case of discrimination against a mentally handicaped child and that it was a slap in the face to anyone with an autistic child that this esablishemnt treated our daughter so poorly.

Thank you, I am planning on writing an article to the editor of our local news paper here in Ashland.  When I get it finished I will post a copy here for everyone to read. Thank you for the advice.
