For all the people wanting to know why we would only take a GIRL. When we did Foster care for 2 years, we were asked if we would take in boys or girls and we chose girls. So we did girls between age newborn to 2 year old. Well in that time we bought clothing size newborn to 4T all for a GIRL. We have everything from car seats to the Nursery in Pink. We spent around $20,000 purchasing items in that 2 year period and my husband said it would be crazy if we had a choice of boy or girl when we decided to adopt, why not  ask for a
GIRL!!!

You answered my question about why a girl but now another one.. Why did you both ONLY want to foster girls? Both girls and boys need homes not just one or the other. A baby is a baby and there are so many that need adopting. If a adopted parent came to me while I was preg then I fount out they only wanted a girl I would not give them my child boy or girl. No I have never adopted or place a child up but just giving my opinion that it is wrong to go through so many moms like you all did and turned them all down cause they were boys.

Congrats on your GIRL.

Shell,

The reason that we ONLY Fostered girls is because here in Pinellas County Florida, when you foster you can only have BOYS or GIRL sleeping in one room. We have a 3 bedroom home but at the time my Daughter was still living at home and so there was only one bedroom left. We chose to foster GIRLS since that is what I was used to, with raising a daughter already. So that is how that happened.

For the other question you asked,  about a Birth Mother knowing we wanted to adopt only a girl. The Agency was great about handling this. When they sign on a Birth Mother they need proof of their pregnancy before they matched them with Adoptive Parents, so they were never told about us until after the Ultrasound was done. The Agency always had 3 Adoptive Couples match to them before that. One wanted a Girl, one wanted a boy and one didn't care. So the Birth Mother was never shown the appropriate profile until after the fact of the ultrasound and if she met with that couple and did not feel they were the ones. She was always offered more profiles to look at.  So you see, even though we were matched there was always stipulations with that match for us and the only person left broken hearted was us. The Birth Mother was always protected and never knew about us.

This is such a great way of keeping track.  I think I am going to write down our journey from start until now and hopefully I'll be able to put the date of brought him or her, for us, home.

Thank you for sharing.
