A while back I published a journal on the 128 ac. Wood.... Well, wouldn't you know it, not long after writing it a family from Pennsylvania drove down and bought the beautiful place.... I've stopped crying over it.
We still have our current home, and I don't want to whine about it because my garden has been wonderful this year. My lettuce bed came back this year with robust enthusiasm, so much so we couldn't eat it fast enough! My tomatoes are the best they've ever been; corn hasn't been harvested just yet, but will be enough to freeze once it is; watermelon and cantaloupe are still on the vines; I've had zucchini, summer squash, and cucumbers running out of my ears! If you don't remember how tiny my back yard is, take a look at the pictures on my home page and you'll see just how amazing it is to have so much growing there! Again, no complaints here on lower grocery bills.
Now for the news update... We have bought a property 1 1/2 hrs. from my current home which we close on Friday ~ YEAH! No, it's not 128 ac., it's 24 ac. There are two ponds, both spring fed, and the Illinois River runs right through the middle. No, it's not like the Illinois River up north that is gigantor and uninvitingly dangerous; it's a quaint river many people in Oklahoma use to enjoy canoeing, rafting, or just planting their butt in an inner tube with a cooler tied to it and floating down slowly enjoying good drinks, chats, family time, and scenery, not to mention the occasional fish nibbling at your backside. That draws a pretty picture, don't it?
The home is about half the size of our current. It was listed at 2400 sq. ft. I don't think we'll kill each other. The house is colonial in style with lower and upper level porches that span the entire length of the front. What beautiful views of the river from these two porches.
Yes, I've started the decorating, yard sale style. It is unbelievable what can be found at yard sales! I've bought almost enough furniture from these sales to furnish it. What's nice is I've spent very little for pretty nice stuff. I'll be sure to write a new journal including pictures, soon.
For now, we will be keeping our home in the city, but spending most of our time on the river property. My boys are bursting at the seams to get out there. They've already tried out the river finding a wonderful jumping spot into a nice clear deep hole. The previous owner had already spied and fixed the jumping spot for his children who are now grown and gone. The bluff has a ladder; the tree overhanging the jumping spot has a rope swing, and the same tree also has wooden steps nailed to it so you can jump from the large limb providing bigger butterflies in bellies as they courageously jump! Ahh... such fun!
