Alright so my husband is in the Army. In February he was discharged early because his ETS was approaching and he wouldn't reenlist to deploy with his unit....so they kicked him out 3 months early to make room for a new guy. Ever since then we have been in a spiraling vortex of doom financially. They didn't give him severance pay and he's been denied unemployment because his veterans injury claim is still being processed. So since February we have been living in a 5th wheel trailer with no income. We had $7,000 in our savings account and now we have $0.32 in our savings. We owe my parents $1,500, our credit card is maxed out, and we even deposited an insurance check from a previous fender bender into our account so we wouldn't overdraw it... see what I mean about spiraling vortex of doom? Well a few weeks ago my husband was scheduled a veterans appointment in Sacramento CA. We went and came back and he went to the veterans office to claim the trip and receive a reimbursement check for the gas. He was denied it because he made more than $17,000 last year....do you know of any soldier who makes less than that? Any way he protested and asked for the VA manager who also said he didn't "qualify" for reimbursement, my husband offered to show them our bank statements to show we had no money and no income. Management wasn't interested and sent him on his way. This was the last straw. I wrote a letter about our situation and how the army has screwed us numerous times, he has a friend who is the creator of a veterans help center who forwarded it to everyone he knew.....that was 3 days ago. We have received a ton of phone calls from people who have read my letter. People who know people, veterans willing to donate money, and just today a man from the pentagon called my husband. Pretty cool huh? Anywho this was pretty much just a rant, but I also wrote it to inform those who have been mistreated by the government to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. The man from the pentagon said he is going to call the manager from the va clinic personally to make sure we get our money, and I feel accomplished.
