I'm planning to move into another neighborhood where I don't have any friends or relatives. I'm not really a people-person who can easily get along with strangers. Currently my son goes to Tae Kwon Do class and they provide transportation services. However, the community I'm going to has no such class and my son no longer wants to do Tae Kwon Do. School-based afterschool programs end at 6:30pm while I can get there by 7pm.

Let alone my shy personality, as a working mom, it's tough for me to have an opportunity to meet with other moms, get to know each others, and share community information.

Any advice?

Maybe check with the local Parks and Recreation Department?

have you already joined a local group here on cafemom? i used to have one. but i moved away and closed my local group. my new location already has a local group that is inactive. but maybe you will have better luck than me. or start one? search by zipcode.

what about the local ads for your new city. do they have any free ad space websutes for that locale. where you can see if there are any childcare co-ops or google childcare co-ops in that zipcode. your new schools website may have some resources listed. or ask the school counselor for a list of resources for the students. is there a local moms or family oriented magazine that has a directory of local services that you can pick up free. the public library bulletin board maybe.

the local health center may also have a listing. or the local hospital website may also have a list of resources. im thinking of all the places that maintain lists. there is probably on online list somewhere. i would start with google.com and enter your city state and zipcode and "afterschool"
