My DH and I watch Prime time What would you do almost every friday night, however I am honestly getting tired of it cause i am starting to see a trend. If you watch the show it's these experements that they set up just to see what you would do. For example last nights was about immigrant workers going into a restaurants but are refused service cause they are considered illegal. Now honestly I have my opinions on illegal immigrants but if one came into a restauraunt for food I think it's inhumane to refuse them service. I mean they MAY or MAY NOt be illegal but they are still human. The trend that i am seeing is that with every experement that they do in the end the results are either we are prejudice or racist. I think it's wrong because what you see in a matter of a span of a half hour is just that a small window. it doesn't mean that every one in america is either prejudice or racist. Personally I think they need to reconfigure on how they air their television show because some day some one is going to get angry. What do you think?
Comments:
Oh, and as far as people taking it too far and possibly getting hurt, a guy in that segment last night DID assault a camera guy when he was confronted. Stupid people don't like being shown that they are indeed, stupid.
People are angry daily everywhere. Ya can't get away from it, not even on here.
Feed them I say.

I can see given some of the recent set-ups the show has done how someone might feel that way. However, I think the show still remains true to its original purpose - if you saw something you believed was unethical occurring between two individuals, would you speak up? People often do not stand up for or defend strangers, something that is a crucial part of being in a cohesive community. Of course the show will use topics that get ripped from headline news, because that is what people are most interested in seeing. It is television after all.
But specifically regarding the set-up with the non-English speakers, I felt it was more a reflection of how ignorant people can be by linking one characteristic (not speaking English) with another (being illegal). Contrary to what most people think, English is NOT our country's national language and there is not requirement to speak it in order to become a U.S. citizen. For any of those individuals to assume non-English speakers must not be legal, is stupid. If anything, I think that show reveals the depth of ignorance that prevails in this country. :o(
