" The beauty of the written word is that it can be held close to the heart and read over and over again.'' ~~~ Florence Littnauer
What was your favorite pastime as a child? Did you prefer doing it alone or with someone else?
My favorite pastime as a child would have to be piano playing. I honestly don't remember ever not playing the piano. Course that could be because as my folks will tell you I started pecking around on it when I was barely three!
My folks love to tell stories from those days of my piano playing while I lived at home. Stories like when I was ''forced'' to take a break from lessons because my hands weren't big enough to play the music! Or the one about my junior spring music show when I can running down the center aisle of the auditorium and whis[ered that words no musician's parent ever wants to hear, " Daddy, my music is home on the piano!'' To this day I still don't know how he did. I just know that when the opening curtain raised, there was my'' music laying on the music stand by the piano!
When it comes to playing piano it is pretty much a solatairy sort of pastime. Of course, I loved to play at any chance I was given to play. Be it in church to fill in for the organist or at a family holiday gathering (espeically Christmas) or in someone's recital. I loved, too, hearing younger kids (or their parents) tell me how my music had encouraged them to keep on studying theirs!
No matter where I played though...in public or in the privacy of home...there was one thing that was always the same...I played for my own enjoyment and out of my simple but complete love of playing!
If you can't feel the music then you're simply playing the notes on the page!
