My father passed when I was only a year old. I dont have any memories of him. My father was in the military. He was on his way home for Christmas on Dec 12th 1985. They were coming from the Sinai. They had made a pit stop in Gander Newfoundland, Canada. Shortly after takeoff, the plane crashed to the ground. 248 military men and 8 crew members lost their lives that day. My father being one of them.
For years now, I have done everything I could to find any of my fathers family, with no luck. My mother and I are not close, so it wasnt any luck getting info from her. I got nothing of my fathers except for a printed off picture of him. I have always felt like a piece of me was missing. I know nothing of my past, where I come from, who my father was, nothing.
Finally....after much searching, and many tears...today, I found my grandfather. I was so overwhelmed, it took me 2 hours to get up enough courage to call him. It was amazing being able to talk with him, to feel like I am FINALLY closer to my father. My grandfather is going on 84, I wish I could meet him, but funds dont allow it. I will forever blame my mother for me having to wait so many long and hard years to meet this man. I was informed that she would not allow him to see me. It saddens me that my own mother would try to keep something like that from me. She also informed me two days ago, that I may have an older sister.
These past few days have been the hardest in my life, and the happiest all at the same time. I feel like a can be a part of my fathers life. Finally!
