Last night was Lili's first book fair, she started kindergarten 3 weeks ago. They get to preview the books and pick something to put on a wish list to bring home and show the parents. Her teacher worte on her list some kind of art book which gave me no clue as to what it was by the title.
Daddy showed up for the book fair. He missed the meeting with the teacher but it doesn't really matter because she's gonna have a new one in a couple weeks. Anyway, we went into the gym and I asked her to show me what she picked out. She takes us over to the table labelled TEEN and shows us this book full of patterns, pretty much all just geometric designs of shapes to color and a set of little pencil crayons on the front. She has a coloring book of the same sorts of designs and countless pencil crayons, crayons, felts, pastels, paint. So I told her if that's what she really wanted she could get it, but that I thought it was a waste of her money because she already had pretty much the same thing at home. I got her to look around at all the other book sand there were quite a few that were more age appropriate for a little girl that she liked. She's been doing this new thing of saying she will pick something or do something if you ( I ) want her to. I stressed to her that if it was what she really wanted she could get it but would probably be happier with some other cool books to read and enjoy.
She put the coloring book back and got 2 awesome books that she really loves. I was so amazed and proud of her making the right decision and not throwing a crying, screaming fit right there in that echoey (sp?) gym.
I even asked her that night as I tucked her in if she was happy with the books she got and she said yeah and didn't even mention the one she left behind.
I can't believe how much she's changed and grown in these 3 short weeks she's been going to school, we all have really.
My baby boy is having his first alone sleepover at his Oma and Papa's house tonight ;(
My babies are growing up!
