Wow, where do I start!?!?!
On last Weds night, Oct 20th, I started feeling more contractions than usual. By 3:30 am the next morning they were less than 10 mins apart so I had my dad come sit with Cameron and my mom went with me to be checked out in Labor & Delivery. I figured this was another false alarm and Chad should just go to work so he wouldn't loose any more time off for the day when the babies did arrive so I sent him off to work.
We checked in at 7am and around an hour later the doc said I was about 1 1/2 cms and contracting regularly so she wanted to watch me and check again later. After another hour or so she checked again and I was almost 75% effaced and almost 2cms. I was so excited and relieved when she said the words " We're going to admit you!" I was so excited and so scared too because I was only 36 weeks and 1 day along. The doc sent me to radiology to do an ultrasound and the babies were both practice breathing and head down. Thank God for that since I was worried about the NICU possibility and c section possibility too.
I got into my room and they gave me some Nubain for the pain and OMG!!! It made me so sick! I felt hot and nausea ridden! I could not get out of the bed for 4 hrs until it wore off. UGH.....so around 3 or 4 pm she checked me again and I was around 3 or so and starting to leak water so I called Chad and had him come to the hospital. I waited until I was about 4 cms and finally decided to get the epidural. I was so proud to make it that far w/o it.
After I got the epidural I was checked around 6pm and was about 6cms so the doc said I'd probablly have the babies at or after midnight and she broke my water to help things along. She also said my contractions had went from 2-3 mins apart to 5mins so she started me on Pitocin to make the contractions more close together again. The crazy thing is she came back an hour or so later and I was 100% effaced and the full 10 cms!!!!!! She was shocked!! After she said that there was a rush of emotions for me. I was so scared that they were 4 weeks early and I was so scared that I may deliver one baby and then need a c section. Plus my normal doc was on leave b/c of a surgery she had and I had to deliver with a doc I had just met that day. Turns out she was wonderful though! all of my nurses and the anesthesiologist were so nice too!
After 30 mins I was wheeled to a small operating room accross the hall from my room and put on the table while about 10 people where all swarming around getting ready for the babies to arrive. Once I started to push the supervising doctor had the doc who was watching me all day push down on my stomach and keep baby B from flipping once baby A was coming out which would have ended in a c section. And wow that hurt like hell!!! The epidural was so great b/c I could barely feel any pain from the contractions just a bit of pressure and the need to push.
Once I started pushing, maybe about 20 mins or so, my little boy was born. He had the cord wrapped around his neck twice my husband said to me later which could've also ended badly but didn't thank God!! He came out screaming once they cut the cord and thank God again .....HEALTHY!!! Then (with the doc still pushing down on my tummy to keep baby B in place head down) I delivered my daughter 6 MINUTES after her brother!!!!!!!!!! I was so amazed!! I watched frantically while each baby was examined and while I was cleaned up and BOTH babies were healthy and gorgeous despite being only 36 wks along. It was the biggest relief for me. Cameron's delivery was so much harder and the pain of him going to the NICU had me so worried for these babies. I am so blessed and so greatful, everything ended in the best case scenarios for babies and me.
Baby A Carter Marcus was 6lbs 7ozs & 19 inches long and baby B Makayla Marie was 5lbs 2ozs & 18 1/2 inches long.
They got to come right to my room with me and had no problems whatsoever. Besides the day Cameron was born this was one of the best days of my entire life. We stayed in the hospital less than 48 hrs and got to come home with BOTH of our beautiful twin miracle babies. Taking care of them is pretty easy & so much fun. They have completed our family. Big brother Cameron loves them and daddy has been so helpful. He wouldn't even let me change a diaper for the 1st couple days and he gets up with us at every feeding. I am one lucky women for sure!!!!
