My basketball-loving son did NOT make his middle school team. Too painful for words, as he watched others get the chance that he wanted so badly. He made it to the final cut, but that's as far as it went. As a mother, moments like this are the hardest to sit by and watch. He was a whiz in the rec center for 5 years, he played 2 years AAU as a starter, he has won trophies, MVP, etc. So much to his amazement, this didn't work out.

End of the world? I think not. I am using this as an opportunity for him to grow. I want him to see that this kind of thing happens all the time in every part of life. He will take the feedback from the coach, work on the specifics, and try again next year (with no guarantees).

I'm sure some of you have a story to share and I'd like to hear it. Thanks!

awwww these kind of "life lessons" are hard to take but sometimes a necessary evil. Im sorry he has to deal with this disappointment.  Sounds like he has a compassionate mom who will help him get threw it :)
