  The audiobook raises money for and awareness about children in South Africa orphaned and impacted by HIV/AIDS while simultaneously educating children and adults around the world about African cultures and folklore. It was directed by  Alfre Woodard and features stories read by  Gillian Anderson, Benjamin Bratt, LeVar Burton, Ricardo Chavira, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, Whoopi Goldberg, Sean Hayes, Hugh Jackman, Samuel L. Jackson, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Debra Messing, Helen Mirren, Parminder Nagra, Sophie Okonedo, CCH Pounder, Alan Rickman, Jurnee Smollett, Charlize Theron, Blair Underwood, Forest Whitaker, and Alfre Woodard. African music legends Johnny Clegg and Vusi Mahlasela composed music, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu recorded a message to the world's children.

Hachette Audio published and distributed the audiobook and donated all of their net profits from the project.  Manufacturers, recording studios, engineers, attorneys, public relations specialists, web designers, dialect coaches, and others donated their services.  

The audiobook has been featured on CNN, NPR, BET, MSNBC, Associated Press, Extra, VH1 and MTV radio, A & U, Publishers Weekly, The Mo-Nique Show, looktothestars.com, dadomatic.com and many more.  The audiobook has been recognized with the following awards and nominations:
