I was so excited when I received a PM telling me that I had been chosen to receive a $100 gift card from JCPenney for the Holiday Influencer Program. I was even more enthusiastic when I read that I HAD to spend the whole amount on myself. I guess the people at Cafemom (and JCPenney) know that we moms would be tempted to buy things for our families if they didn't stipulate that we spend it on ourselves.
I couldn't wait to get the card in my hot little hand and go shopping. Before I headed to the mall, I checked out their website and looked at some things I thought I might look at once I got there. I looked at lots and lots of things, but in the end decided I needed a new winter coat and I wasn't likely to buy one for myself and this seemed the perfect opportunity.
Finally, my card came, and armed with the little red piece of plastic and decked out in my comfiest clothes, I hit the store yesterday.

I tried on coat after coat after coat. I quickly decided it wasn't going to be as easy as I thought it would be. I am very particular about my clothing. I have some sensory issues and I don't like itchy, confining or bulky clothes. So, that excluded all wool and puffy down coats. I also have short arms, so to get a coat that isn't binding, it needs to be *almost* too big, and the bigger you go, the longer the arms are on the coats. In addition, I wanted a fun color, not black or brown. White was out, because I am a klutz. So, you can see my dilemma here. Luckily, my daughter was with me, so she was able to help me, else I might have ended up with a boxy, ill-fitting Snuggi-looking getup.
In the end, I ended up buying this beautiful aubergine colored coat. It is slightly fitted (but not too confining) and is a very flatteringly cut. And the arms weren't too long. The best part was, we were at the store on the right day. JCPenney was having a Door Buster sale, and things were a bargain. The coat was originally $150, on sale for $59.99. Score!
Check it out.

Okay, this is the best I can do for a picture of me in the coat at the moment.

Now, I had about $35 left to spend. I looked at scarves, hats and gloves first. They had so many great ones to choose from. I tried on some hats:

And so did my daughter. ![]()

I decided though, that I would probably get more use out of a new purse, off we wen to the purse section, where there was another FABULOUS sale going on. Almost everything was at least 40-50% off. I ended up with this terrific pewter colored Nicole Miller bag, originally $70, on sale for $35. I am in so in love with this bag that were I not already married, I would be tempted to commit to lifelong partnership with this bag.
Feast your eyes:

The only thing that I found any objection to was that the store was already decked out for the Christmas / Holiday season complete with Carols playing in the background. I guess I can't blame the retailer for trying to draw out the season from more sales. Plus, a good way to look at it is that it gets people into the Christmas shopping mode early, so as not to put them into crunch mode both financially and time-wise between Thanksgiving in Christmas.

All in all, I had a lovely shopping experience. A lovely lady named Angela helped me pick out the coat, and I will be logging on to the website to give her a good review.
I bought two things that I truly love and I would probably not have spent the money on had I not been *sort of* forced to. I am happy and thankful this Holiday season. Every time I wear the coat or carry the bag I will remember what a special feeling it was to pick them out - just for me!
Comments:
Truthfully, I hadn't been there in ages myself, KT. I used to shop there all the time back in the late 70s early 80s at the closest mall to our house growing up, but I stopped for whatever reason when I got grown.
You are so beutiful, even in a picture taking in your mom-van!
And that coat is PERFECT for you!
And you're wearing your 10th Ave N shirt, WOOOOT!
And triple WOOT for the powers that be picking YOU! xoxoxoxox!
Oooh. . . I am jealous!
I love the coat--wonderful choice! That's the sort of coat I'd choose for myself if I were ever inclined to spend the money on something I wanted, rather than needed (I have a functional winter coat--not fashionable, but it works, so I can't justify a splurge). The purse is pretty, too.
You deserve that bit of CM pampering. I'll turn off the jealous and turn on the "Really, really happy for you!" Way to go!
I agree with the others! Beautiful coat and purse and yes you need to take a picture with the coat on so that we can see it!

I love the coat and the bag! I have not set foot in a JC Penney in a while, but I may have to go look around sometime..
