*Tinkerbel's addiction

I have been babysitting *Tinkerbel for nearly 3 weeks. I knew something was amiss as soon as I met her. I just knew she had some kind of addiction! I've gotten pretty good at spotting little girl's addictions. I'm half way done with *Miss Monk and *Drama Queens addiction to cookie dough. OK, not necessarily half done. They have admitted they have a problem but refuse to quit cookie dough cold turkey(Especially "Aunt Bunny's cookie dough"!!!)

The first day I babysat *Tinkerbel, we went to the pawn shop to "window shop" and so I could get a pawn loan. As soon as the guy reached under the counter, Her eyes lit up and I saw a sly smile start to form on her face. I was trying to dismiss it, but I should have known better.

He pulled out 2 dum dum suckers and asked,"Can this beautiful young lady who's being so well behaved have a sucker(or two, maybe 3)?

I could have said no. I SHOULD have said no. But dog gone it, she looked at me with those puppy eyes and being her first day with me I wanted to make a good impression.

Then we ventured to the smoke shop next. Yes, I know that's an addiction to and I already admit it, but you know what? I don't drink(That often), I don't chase sailors, I don't do drugs, go to bars, I also don't return movies late(that often...) or even raise hell(Shut up Felicia and Lori and...the rest of yous!!!),(very often) But this story isn't about me!!! This is about a little girl and addiction! Stay with me here!!! As we walked in, I had a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach. I tried to pass it off as gas from last nights tacos. I should have known better!

As I made my purchase, the lady behind the counter asked,"Can this sweet well behaved girl have a sucker?" I saw the same devious grin escape *Tinkerbel's face.

I sighed and said,"Sure."

Armed with her treasure(yet another one I should say) we headed out to the truck. She was a little upset when I took the 3 other suckers away from her and put them in the glove box. We arrived back home and she was very insistent she needed another one as she threw the stick from the previous dum dum sucker at me. I tried telling her ,"No, you can have the other one later." but she gave me the puppy eyes and I caved. I'm a "sucker"(lol) for the puppy face.

The following day I had to stop at the veterinarian's office to pick up something for Token, my trusty hearing dog. The secretary took one look at her and commented what an adorable girl *Tinkerbel was and asked if she could give her a sucker. I saw that devious grin on her face and said she could have ONE. The secretary handed her not one, but TWO dum dum suckers.  After we got back out to the truck she placed her one of her new found treasures in the glove box and proceeded to rip into the other one immediately. When we arrived home she got out another one. I tried to tell her,"No!" But then again she gave the puppy eyed look and I caved. This girl had my number.

The weekend passed and I didn't give too much thought about the previous days. Monday rolled around. We went to feed the ducks and walked around the pond. As soon as we got back she signed the word for "candy please" and I gave her one of her dum dum's. The following day we had some running around to do  and yep, you guessed it, "Oh what an ADORABLE little girl!!! Can she have a sucker?"

*Sigh*

Sure, one more couldn't hurt. I probably shouldn't have enabled her and fed into her addiction. She scored a total of SIX Dum dums! The girl was hooked much like Oprah to a baked ham. I did limit her to two a day.

Fast forward to today. We had to stop by the doctor's office and pick up my prescription. I could feel her palm starting to sweat and that same mischievous grin on her face as the receptionist said what so many others have said over the past few weeks.

"What an ADORABLE little girl and so well behaved!!!"(Little did they know!!!)

We then proceeded to Walgreen's to pick up my prescription. We were walking around looking at the Halloween stuff as we waited for my script to get filler. All of a sudden her eyes scanned the candy section. She ran right up to the shelf and grabbed a bag of what else? Dum dum suckers. I bought not one, but TWO bags since they were on sale two for four dollars. She had the death grip on those bags. I paid for our purchase cursing myself for falling for those puppy dog eyes(AGAIN!!!!).

She looked up at me and signed,"Candy please!" and I gave her one since she ate all of her breakfast and was being so well behaved and patient waiting for the pharmacist while he filled my script.

We came into the apartment. I tried to pull the bag away from her as she had them tightly clenched to her chest. After much beggin and bribing I was able to get the bags away from her promising her one(*noting her limit is 2 a day). I tried to get her to admit she had a problem being addicted to dum dum's. She wouldn't. She said she could quit anytime she wanted to. Well not in so many words, but you get the picture.

I laid her down for her nap and she wanted to sleep with the 2 bags of dum dum suckers. I traded her a sippy cup for the bags(Score one for Aunt Bunny here!).

*Sigh*

She's fast asleep now and I'm sure she's just dreaming of ways to manipulate me into increasing her limit from two dum dums a day to three or four. "

I've been chanting my mantra,"I'm not going to give in~I'm not going to give in~~~"

Dumb dum dums!

Harrumph!

Tinkerbel being a Stinkerbel about this addiction!!

*Tinkerbel is a pseudonym to protect privacy of her being embarrassed from her addiction~But I highly doubt she is! lol
