"that's impossible"

"you can't do that"

"that's way too hard"

These are only a few of the things I hear when I tell people I will be buying my very first house in 100% cash. They tell me, "it'll take way too long to do that" or "don't you want your own home before you retire".

My husband and I had plans to buy a house this summer. We were going to find a bank, take out a loan, and make the step. Even though we live in a place that we don't want to be forever, and we know we want to leave in the next couple of years. We wanted our own home! But, we finally wised up, and made a deal: that we would not go into any more debt! Our first step was to cut up all of our credit cards.  We were no longer using them, they were locked away, but we needed them to be completely gone, so that we would no longer feel that temptation over our heads. So we did it. We sent all of our credit cards (that we could find) through the shredder and had our plasectomy! That was sometime in the spring of this year (2010). After this, we've passed by temptation many, many times! Right now in fact, we wish we had credit cards to just pay each other since we don't have the income. But in our heads we KNOW that this is something we have to go through, we have to learn this the hard way, and we are totally glad that we do NOT have a single credit card to fall back on!

Eventually, this hard work will all pay off. We will be able to pay off our debt, every dime on every card and loan that we owe. We will be able to save up an emergency fund of 3-6 months living expenses, and we will be able to buy our first home in CASH!

When that happens, we can finally follow our dreams. I can help out animals that have no homes, adopt children from foreign lands, and I can bail my family out when they fall behind like we are right now. My husband can kick off his computer business, build backyard toys for the kids, and we can give when we see a need, without worrying about how OUR needs are going to be met.

WAY TO GO!!! Like Dave says, you wouldn't take dieting advice from an overweight person, so why would you take financial advice from someone in debt? Great job, keep it up!!
