• In the Spotlight:

This is Boomer, my lab mix. I adopted him from the Humane Society in January of 2010. Right now, Boomer is 70+ lbs and looks pretty good, other than a few places where the fur just won't grow in.

But, when I brought him home... he didn't look like this. He looked like this

(The other pup is my Miss Trixie) Kind of hard to tell here, but, Boomer was weighing in at only 40 or 45 lbs... he had skin sores from allergies and kennel cough. He had been looked at a few times while at the Humane Society, but, no one wanted to deal with the skin problem.

I was up there to look for a friend for Trixie. DH sent me to look at a border collie, but, she had already been picked up by the time I got there. So, I went searching. Boomer was sitting in his cage, quiet and mopey. His skin looked like my dad's old chow's skin.. so, I knew I could deal with that.

They told me he had been kind of dropped off in front of the building. So, I decided to see how he acted and he was awesome. He wanted to play and was so nice to my DS. So, I brought him home.

From the Humane Society, we got one free vet check. So, we brought him in and got medicine for his skin. Well, we ended up having to bring him back later for the kennel cough, then for worms. All of this, medicine twice a day, cream on his skin, and making sure he ate... my little son got into it as well.

At his last checkup in August, the vet was very pleased with him. She was happy with the change in his personality, his weight, his skin. She said he looked like a dog... not a bag of bones.

I am glad that you have read this far. Boomer is my son's best friend, and my shadow. I am glad that the collie wasn't available, because, I fear that he may have ended up staying there. Boomer recently graduated from Basic Obedience and even the instructor noticed a difference in him in 7 weeks.

Though, I have to say, this took a lot of love and a lot of care ... but, it was worth it

What a nice story! He's a lucky dog,and the two of them are so cute!

It's almost as if he was just meant to be found by you.
