Well I started the day with less than six hours of sleep and no babysitter, so it was kind of a hectic morning.

We got to the start at 9:53 (the race started at 10) and we got our tags etc. I of course had to pee as soon as we got there.

And then the race started. We didn't even drive the route before hand so we had no idea what we were getting into. Which was very very stupid of us.

It started out with about half a mile straight up hill. Somehow we didn't see that coming even though we live in Utah. My husband and I were in the back of the pack. which was fine. I just wanted to jog the whole thing.

It was depressing at the same time since there were people in front of us walking! Yes walking!! Okay well really it was on again off again walking, but it seemed to be me like it was mostly walking.

At about the half way point the wind started picking up and the hills got shorter, but steeper :( I gotta admit I did walk off and on. I was having a really hard time.

But we passed a few people which felt good. On the last stretch it started snowing and the wind was blowing against us. It felt like we were jogging in place. We also started getting passed by the 10k people! Holy cow they were so fast! It was cool to watch and I think it helped me pick up speed.

Near the finish line we met up with my in-laws, a nephew, and our son. Which was so cool. Reuben (my husband) picked up our son and we raced to the finish line. Errr my version of racing.

We finished just shy of 48 minutes. I was going for under 36. In my defense though, the weather was terrible, we hadn't trained for all those hills, and I didn't get a good nights rest. I still had a blast. I know my husband could have gone a whole lot faster, but I'm so glad he stuck with me. And I'm so glad that my in-laws came to support us.

Us before the race!

I was lost... seriously. I almost ended up in the 10k pack. This is us before the race also.

At the finish. And holy cow I look huge. But I was wearing 3 layers. I wish I had more since it got so darn cold.

Reuben's holding our son!

I know it says 48:03, but we did finish before this pic was taken.

I like how I'm the only one that's sweaty... figures doesn't it? Eww smelly!!!

Our next race is the St. Patrick's day... so sometime in March. I've got a lot of training to get in though.

Oh and the in-laws purchased us a jogging stroller too. I guess there's no backing out of it now!

In the end I had fun. I'm a bit disappointed in our time, and that I walked. But I'm glad I have a time that I can try to beat and I really do think I did the best I could do. So I'm proud of myself!

Good job! I want to do the 5K for the March of Dimes and I think it's in April? So I have A LOT of training to do! Especially because the last time I worked out (last week) the eliptical about killed me. Which means I will be sticking with the track and the excercise bike for a while! :-) But anyway, great job, you should be proud!!!you rock

Congrats! I've done a 5k and a 10k before, and for me, the 5k was much harder - it was my very first race and I think I did it in 52 minutes. You should be so proud of yourself!!

That is great. You should feel very proud of yourself . I think it is awesome that you and your husband are doing it together. My family ended up with the flu the week of my first 5K so I missed it. I have ran one since then and can't wait to start running again.

That's awesome!  I give you alot of credit for running/walking in ANY race.  I know I couldn't do it.  Good luck in March!

Congrats!  My first 5k I finished in 47 minutes and was passed by speed walkers but I kept my pace and I finished and that's all that mattered to me.  Good luck in your next race!
