I share custody of my daughter with her father. We don't have any legal papers detailing visitation schedules, since we've rarely had problems working it out on our own. I've had her every Thanksgiving so far, but we recently went on a new holiday schedule so this year he will have her. I'm a bit sad that she won't be with me, but I do think it's more fair this way. Fair to her father, so he has an opportunity to spend holidays with her, and he did even offer to try to schedule our dinners so we both could take her, but it didn't work out. And more fair to her, so she has the time to spend holidays with him and his family. I wouldn't want her to miss out on bonding with them or miss taking part in their traditions.

Do any other single parents have similar arrangements? How do you feel about having to miss some holidays with your child?
