Strange how cleaning out the garden at the end of the season feels almost as energizing as filling it up in the spring!
My garden really needed cleaning out this fall, but I never seemed to get around to it. Well, today was a gorgeous, sunny, and unseasonably warm 54 degrees, so Idecided it was time to do or die.
And I did! It looks great! Well, okay. It's not green and lush and beautiful, but it looks soooo much better than it did this morning. The dead leaves and stems from my peonies and day-lilies are all gone, as is my rather pathetic passiflora that always looks so weedy.
I yanked up the peppers and basil and ruthlessly cut back the oregano and tarragon.
The only things left are the sage, thyme and rosemary. I piled mulch around the base of the rosemary to try to give it some more protection when the weather turns cold again.
The only reason the sage and thyme were left alone is that I want to quickly do some research before I snip them to dry.
I've been adding to my Book of Knowledge, so it feels really good to have access to my herbs - the last of the season!
