I used to be embarrassed to say that our family received WIC, but I'm not anymore. I'm upset with the way people react towards me knowing I'm on WIC. My SO proudly serves in the Navy, and is currently on deployment. However, everytime I use my WIC checks at the store(typically Walmart since it's closest), someone always has something snide or rude to say to me. In front my kids, no less..granted they are 4 and 11 weeks, but still...Right now I'm receiving a little extra because I just had the baby, and I also get it for the baby, and our 4 year old. I try to get everything at once because it's easier to make one trip with the two kids. I had alot of milk to get this past time. The guy behind me was purchasing some milk, and he said..."Why do I have to buy my own milk, it's not like you can't spare some?" Another time recently(this is while I was still pregnant actually)..a lady behind me was huffing and puffing because it was taking awhile for me to check out. She said, "Must be nice to get everything for free! I would like to get my frozen stuff home before it thaws!" She had one frozen pizza in her cart and huge case of beer. Really lady?! I just don't appreciate being looked down on and talked to that way just because our family receives WIC! Oh, and we don't get everything for free!!!
