My son (6yrs old) has asked for a Nintendo DS for Christmas. The problem I have is that they cost so much money. I am also looking into the Leapfrog Explorer or the Vtech Mobigo consoles. I like this gaming systems because they are educational and fun. But they too have there draw backs. My son will out grow it soon & the games cost a lot.
With the DS I know it is something that he could use for years to come and do some learning but I'm have trouble finding some educational games.
So my question is what type of gaming systems have you brought for kids of this age. Looking for all suggestions.
The good thing about it is I did ask him if he would be mad if he didn't get it. He told me no and then asked for something else in its place. (a scan FM raido)

My son has a DS. He has had it for 2 years. If you are worried about educational games, take a look at Scribblenauts. It really stimulates problem solving and such. I know it is expensive, but you can get a used one on Ebay pretty reasonable. Especially the previous models. They still play all the games but don't have wifi. That's what we did. Find a reputable seller who will garrantee the system.
