Once Pepsi officials accept submitted ideas, individuals and
non-profits begin promoting their project and recruiting thousands to
log on the Pepsi Refresh Project website (www.refresheverything.com) to
vote daily for one month.
Pepsi Refresh Project officials have accepted an idea from Albemarle
non-profit GHA and the organization is in the running for a $25,000
grant to develop a multipurpose track at Carolina Farms.
GHA, formerly known as Group Homes for the Autistic, has provided
quality services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder in our
region since 1978.
Carolina Farms is one of several programs operated by GHA and was
developed in 2005 on more than 30 acres of rolling farm land in the
Millingport community where individuals with autism can live, work and
play.
Carolina Farms has expanded to include four residences, a barn, two greenhouses, a potting shed and several gardens.
With this extensive development comes the need for a designated
recreational area separate from heavy-traffic areas. The construction of
a 440-foot circular paved track will allow for critically needed daily
exercise regimens for the individuals that GHA serves. Not only will it
be utilized for walking, running and biking, it will serve as a
designated area for skating.
In the $25,000 grant category for December, there are more than 1,000 ideas in the running.
In order for GHA to receive the grant, the organization’s idea has to
be one of the top 10 vote getters when voting closes at 11:59 p.m. Dec.
31. GHA staffers and volunteers have been hard at work voting and
recruiting others to vote through e-mail and Facebook.
Everyone may vote daily through any e-mail account or Facebook account by visiting www.refresheverything.com/skatingwithgha
In addition, individuals may also vote by texting 104269 to Pepsi (73774). Standard text messaging rates may apply.
As of mid-December, GHA’s project idea was ranked 124 out of more than 1,000 entries.
I don't post very many journals and I don't often ask for help on things. However this is something I hold dear to my heart. The company I work for needs your help. We need votes to help supply a safe place for our individuals with autism to exercise and have fun. Below is the article from our local paper and the link to the website to cast your votes. Please help this cause it means a great deal to these guys. Thanks.
