I never thought I would think a gift could be life changing, but my children proved me wrong by presenting me with a mini Keurig machine. You should know that I don't drink coffee, ever, so on the face of it, a machine that primarily focuses on being a coffee brewer may not be an ideal gift for someone like me. However, the machine also brews all different kinds of teas, including chai teas and chai lattes, hot chocolate, cider, and even cold teas for summertime. I have a serious diet soda habit that I have been trying to break forever with little success. Do I know I can boil water and pour it over a teabag and make tea for myself? I do. I also know that no matter how many kinds of great teas I have bought, I just never get motivated to do that in the morning, with a diet soda so easy to grab. The Keurig has changed all that. I get up in the morning and make myself a cup of tea, usually a chai, occasionally a latte, but I prefer it to the soda. I am finding that I am drinking tea at other times, too, when I never would have before. Tea, green tea, tea with all the antioxidants and less caffeine than the soda I was drinking, tea without the acidifying phosphoric properties of soda that could cause brittle bones. Tea without all the sugar substitute, as I drink tea with just a drop of half and half or milk, no sweetener at all. Yes, this silly limited purpose single cup brewing machine is changing my life one cup of tea at a time, lessening the hold the soda has on me, and giving me optimism that for the new year, I can make other positive changes as well.
For some, it's diamonds, for others, it's pearls, but for me, it's a Keurig. Who knew?
