This is in response to the article in "The Stir" called "Sharing a bed with your pet can kill you".

This is stupid. The reason the boy got sick is because the cat was NOT taken care of, even the article stated it was flea infested. The plague came form the fleas Not the cat. Who knows, maybe the didn't take good care of the kids or house either and it wasn't a clean place to live? And yes, cats can be worse IF you let them outside to roam around (and maybe even get hit by a car). Also if you don't get your pet fixed it's more likely to get sick. Animals (cat's mainly) can get STD's. Not the same ones we get, except for feline AIDS, but they do get them. Let me tell you, I have two adorable little boys, ages 4 and 7, and I volunteers for a animal rescue. I have had more cats and dogs (mainly kittens) come in through my doors and I have fostered them then I can ever count or remember (100's of them)! The first thing I do is feed them and give them IV fluids (if they need them) then they get a bath and flea treatment. I also have 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 ferrets, 1 gecko, 1 hamster and 2 fish of our own. My boys (after the animals is bathed and treated for fleas) hold, play with, and help me take care of the foster animals all the time...they love it. You know how many times they've gotten sick from doing this? NONE!!! Not even once. I mean if you're that worried you could use a baby wipe to clean the dog's paw after they've been outside, but that's a it much...Ive never done it and by family is fine. The only thing "dangerous" is Toxiplasmosis and that's only for pregnant women and only if you clean the cat pan...so just make your man clean it for 9 months. ;) lol So I call bullshit on this study and write up. It's not the animal, it's if the person takes care of them or not.
