I was surprised when my daughter told me there were not to many elective classes offered in high school anymore. I am talking about Home Ec, Chorus, Shop and band. She said they do offer computer classes but, what happened to the classes that were fun and, taught kids the skills they would use in their everyday life.
When I was in high school some 45 years ago I took Home Ec. I loved learning to sew, cook and bake. Of course, my goal was to be a mom and homemaker when I grew up. I guess these are not the choices kids have today, are they?
My mother sewed all our clothes when we were young. She also sent my sister and I to sewing classes at the age of 10. I have always loved to sew and, taking sewing in high school just added a better understanding of the right way to develop this craft.
Have these crafts gone out of syle for this new generation?
What about Chorus and Band? How does a child know if he likes to sing or, play an instument if they never have the opportunity to find out?
What is your opinion about the elective classes they do not offer in school anymore? How many of you took shorthand when you were in school? I did, LOL. How did we know we would never use it? So many things about school have changed. Is it for the better?

I am only 24 so I was in high school not too long ago, but your daughter may not be telling you the complete truth. They may not offer the class she wants to take. My high school offered and still offers Band, JROTC, Drama, Home Ec, Computer Classes and a host of other electives. You need to call the school and find out for sure what they do offer. Also, alot of jobs now adays require knowing how to use a computer and typing skills. So yeah, a computer class is a skill most kids need to know for everyday life in the work force.
