Autism changes the life of everyone it touches. For me, it has made me a much stronger (at times extremely persistent) person. I do everything in my power to get my son all of the services he needs. I do everything I can to make the world a more accepting and understanding place for him. I have been known to correct adults claiming my son is a "bad" kid and that all he needs is a good whooping to get him to act right. I know my son is here to make the world a better place. So, for him I will continue informing anyone who will listen about autism in hopes that when he gets older he can go into the store without the stares and whispers he gets now when he gets overwhelmed and in hopes that he will grow up believing he can do anything his heart desires because he truly can. So, in honor of Autism Awareness Month...how has autism changed you?

Autism has taught me that I am so much stronger than I ever knew. It has taught me there is more to see and feel and touch in this world than I ever imagined. It has taught me to never say never, to look and listen with my whole heart. It has taught me that acceptance does not mean sitting back and doing nothing it means standing up and doing everything . . .
