For those of you that do not know, I am raising my grandson and have been ever since 2003!!!! We got legal guardianship of him when he was 1 years old. At that particular time his mother was young and her or the father could not take care of him so I told my daugther that I would take care of my grandson until she gets on her feet. Well as you can imagine, he is like a son to me as well as my grandson. I knew eventually she would get him back but I just didn't know when. This one is going to hurt and it makes me sad just thinking about it. However, I have kept my promised and raised him with the help of my husband to the best of our abilities. It has truly been an honor and a pleasure raising my grandson. His mom is active duty in Alaska and will be coming down in the summer time to get her son. The legal papers have already been drawn up and all I have to do is go before the judge and have him or her to give the ok.

It's great you've been there for her. I hope everything works out okay. I can't imagine letting him go at this point....I'm sure it will be very difficult. I hope too that you'll be able to see him and spend time with him if he does go with her. I'll bet to him you are "Mom" and will always be...I mean you are the only one who's been there for him. What does your Grandson want?Good Luck!

After reading your journal, I thought to myself, there's no doubt this would be VERY difficult!  I'm currently trying to get my little neice that just turned 1 in Dec. because her mother and father are neglectful and refuse to work and make this babies life easier. When I read your post  you said you took him because they were young and couldn't take care of him. I would rather that be the situation then it be because they had" hurt" this boy. Can you imagine the fear you would feel, having to give him back not knowing if they were gonna do right by him? I can't imagine giving him back after having him this long, it would absolutely break my heart but I believe your daughter did the right thing by handing him over to you and your husband while she got it together. Will she be living close to you, so that you can keep seeing your grandson? I really feel for you, this isn't going to be easy at all, not for you or this little guy.I wish you the best grandma, your good people!
