TRAVIS FRANKLIN Travis Brandon Franklin, 22, of Las Vegas, was killed June 15, 2010, in a motorcycle accident. He was born July 25, 1987. Travis was a second-year apprentice with the Local 525 Pipefitters Union. He is survived by his father, Richard Franklin of Las Vegas; mother, Marie Martinez of Denver; sister, Nicole Chambers; brother, Richard Franklin; and sister, Kreesha Franklin, all of Las Vegas. Travis was buried Monday, June 21, at Bunkers Eden Vale Cemetery.

Las Vegas Boulevard crash near I-15 leaves 1 dead

One person was killed in a collision on Las Vegas Boulevard North, near the intersection of Interstate 15, on Tuesday during rush-hour traffic, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Trooper Chelita Rojas said one fatality was confirmed in the crash, which involved a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and Suzuki motorcycle about 4 p.m. near the Apex Landfill.

The motorcyclist was killed in the crash, she said. The driver of the pickup was taken to University Medical Center with unknown injuries, she said.

Details about how the crash occurred were not immediately available, and the wreck remains under investigation, Rojas said. The highway, which had been closed, has since reopened, she said.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified a motorcyclist killed Tuesday in a collision on Las Vegas Boulevard North near Interstate 15 as 22-year-old Travis Franklin of Las Vegas.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chelita Rojas said a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling southbound on Las Vegas Boulevard near the Apex Landfill about 4 p.m. when it collided with a Suzuki motorcycle traveling northbound.

The Silverado entered the northbound lane to pass two semi trucks and collided with the motorcycle, troopers said. Franklin was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup was taken to University Medical Center with unknown injuries, authorities said.
