Hello Everyone,

I guess I just wanted to say that I do have a favorite group here on Cafe Mom.  This group has stood up and really given me support when I've really needed it.  It is made up of a wonderful group of women.  We all have something in common, our children.  They are our hearts our souls and we as mothers are trying hard to do everything we can to help them grow and achieve in every way possible.  It is a challenge to raise any child, but it takes someone special to raise a child on the spectrum.  Usually these children have more than one issue.  Not just High or Low functioning autism or Aspergers, but they can have ADHD, SPD, ODD, Seizures, non verbal, speech delays you name it.  So it helps to have a great group of ladies to share each moment of sadness, a moment you might feel a little defeated, or then those moments of achievement and success, or just that smile that you have waited all day to see.

I didn't know what to do our 3yr old was not talking, just making noises, he wouldn't look you in the eyes, he would stir into space for long periods of time.  He didn't like to be touched unless it was on his terms.  His temper sometimes seemed off the charts for no reason either.  He was picky about textures of food, clothing just about anything even toys and he was on the move non stop.  He wasn't sleeping hardly any maybe 3-5 hours in a 24 hour period.  This is something that we had talked with the doctors about since he was born.  He just didn't like to sleep like most babies.  Eventually  the doctors said it was ADHD well that explained him never stopping and not wanting to sleep but we had more concerns than that.  It didn't seem it was all ADHD.  Not with the other things going on.  I starting to do a little research and found Autism I didn't really have a clue what this was. I just knew I was seeing signs.  So I set up some appointments and we finally got a Diagnose of PDD-NOS after a few months.  They didn't explain anything just sent us on our way.  Well I just stumbled across this group on Cafe Mom in a search its Autism/Asperger Awareness  and I have a been  member ever since.  These ladies have been a great help to me.  They gave me the support I needed.  Advice, and what types of treatment I should discuss with the doctors and the school.  I have to say we have come a long way in a short time.  Our Lil man is 6 he will be 7 next month and he now talks he still struggles with his speech but he can talk.  He works hard in speech therapy.  He has OT and it has helped with his sensory issues.  We see the progress he is making everyday.  I don't know if we would of been this far if I had not found this support group because I had the tools from talking with moms to get him the help he needed.  The doctors don't always tell you.  The schools will not because they don't want to pay for services.  We have to stand strong and support each other to get what we need for our children.  Its nice to have a wonderful group of ladies to turn too.

I have noticed that Cafe Mom now has a new group for Autism, it made me wonder why.  We have one!  Its a wonderful group, why do we need this new one?  I'm all for support and finding new information about the spectrum and any new treatments available.  I just found it odd that a new group has come about.  We only have one group for ADHD which I'm a member of also.  So if anyone knows the reason behind the new group let me know please.  I did join just to see. Like I said I'm open minded about learning anything I can that might help.  The Austim Awarness group that I've been a member of really fits me.  These are the ladies that have been here for me and our family.   SO I'D LIKE TO GIVE A BIG THANKS TO THIS GROUP!    Autism/Asperger's/PDD Awareness Daily Digest
