I have learned a lot about myself over these 13+ years.  I have learned that I really am a softy, inside a crusty exterior.  I know now that I would do anything to protect one of my kids.  I have learned that, while I'm typically quite type "A", I have a broad sense of humor and tolerance for children's outlook on things and letting them experiment with different things, even if it gets messy.  And I'm thankful for that, as my daughter prepares to enter an advanced high school, with not only high grades, but a well developed artistic aptitude, which college professors get excited about.  I don't think she'd be that well rounded if I hadn't encouraged her to explore different things.

And above all I've learned that kids need a firm framework, with rules, delivered with love and attention.  After writing this, I've now also realized how proud I am of my family and that I'm actually a pretty good mom.

Like the old saying, "My parents weren't always wrong" and I'm not always right; but I Am always there for them, as their advocate, and unconditional loving guide - so I better keep looking at myself with clear vision and a forgiving heart.
