We all as mothers agree that its important for our families to be healthy, active, and most importantly happy! I get magazines each month from Parents, Family Fun, and Parenting just to name a few among others. I was reading in the Parents magazine from March, and there is a very interesting and easy challenge to help make your family all of those important qualities. Each week there are small things you can do to make a difference for your family. I plan on doing these little activities and making the changes suggested to help my family! :) I think will be interesting and beneficial for us all.
     Instead of my weeks running from M-S, Im going to do from Th-W. Ill began each new week on Thursday and post the changes and activites for the week and then on Wednesday Ill post how we did! :) Im very excited about this activity! I hope you all will join in! Let me know if you do and how it goes! Good Luck to a happier, healthier, and more active family! Learn more about this at www.parents.com/12-weeks

WEEK 1 -

Nutrition: Put away the salt shaker!!
     We aren't big salt people, we may use it every now and again but it isn't something that I cook with. My children definitely have never used Salt so this should be a easy goal to meat for us. Salt is linked to many different Medical Problems and its important to teach our children about these things to make sure they are knowledgeable about how to be healthy. One thing that we can do to succeed in this is to try and buy sodium free or reduced-sodium foods. Grocery Shopping week is this week, so we will definitely get started on this.

Health: Give your kids a Emergency Plan!
    This is very important for anyone and everyone to know, and who more important then our children! Every child should know their Parents Full Name, Address, Telephone Number, and how to dial 9-1-1. Now even though pre-schoolers do not really understand the purpose of 9-1-1 its important to make sure they at least know what 9-1-1 is for. My son is 6 and daughter 3, both have birthdays in May. My son will be able to understand what he is being taught on why and of course my daughter will catch on while I'm teaching my son. --what ways do you think will help the children learn and understand the importance of this?

Fitness: Get out of the House!
     It is very important for everyone including children to stay active! this can be done just by going outside for an hour daily with your kids and playing or working in the yard! This for us is definitely something we already do daily. Every day M-F we walk from the bus stop and we play in the afternoons outside. Some of the kids favorite things are Hide and Go Seek, Tag, and Logan just got a new basketball goal and we play on that a lot. By being active for just a hour a day whether it's playing with your kids, exercising, working in the yard, etc, this will keep you healthier and not only help you learn and be consistent in living a healthy life but teach your children at a early age the importance of being active!

Happiness: Limit Every one's Screen Time!
    Yes I mean Television! The article gives different statistics on the effects of to much television and now a days you can really look anything up on the Internet that you want to find out about. Now I'mnot one of those parents that think television is harmful to children, now of course if they are watching shows that are inappropriate for their age that is understandable but if it is age appropriate most shows for children are now educational and not only that but there are channels that run 24/7 shows appropriate for children! If you aren't able to have these channels there are always movies that are the same. With that being said, limiting screen time with allow more active time, and not only that but also more family time. In place of the television time, even if just a hours. Talk to each other, play a board game, color, read quietly, paint, etc. This will not only be fun for you and your children but you will also be making memories!

~~~Have a Good Week~~~ Enjoy ~~~ and Stay on Track!! Heres to a Happier, Healthier, and more Active Family! :)
