its a girl

My oldest daughter gave birth to my first grandchild on Tuesday morning. I got to be there for the birth, so that was very exciting. Her labor was short and she gave birth naturally with no medication, which was amazing to me because she made it all look so easy. She should put "Birth Pro" on her resume. Her fiance was a great birth partner, so he deserves a thumbs-up for that as well.

The baby's name is Aolani Sicilia. She was 8 pounds, 2 ounces and 19 inches long. And she's just as cute as a button.

I honestly do not feel like an old lady just because I have a grandchild, but my ex (the new grandpa) is acting like he's 90. That's not a new thing, but being a grandfather just reinforces it, and I felt like he was trying really hard to get me to commiserate about being so elderly at the ripe old age of 40. He kept talking about being so old and bodies falling apart and all of that. What a weirdo.

eye rolling

If anything, I am in better shape than I was when I was younger-- I am very fat now, but at the same time I am more fit, in terms of endurance for things like walking and jogging, and I am a lot stronger. As I've started taking care of myself, I've started feeling better than I did even when I was young. And I am losing weight, so even the fat part is temporary. I intend to live for another 40 years, so there's no point in feeling old now.
