I have a compliant 5 year old daughter, and a strong-willed 3 year old daughter. Daily tasks have always been a challenge with my 3 year old. She must test every direction I give her. Potty training has been an endless battle of a power struggle. It is very frustrating when a parent knows that the child is capable of going to the potty, but chooses not to. I have been reading the book I mentioned above in the title. If you ever decide to read a book to assist you in parenting, I suggest this one. Not only does it show you how to have your child do as you say, but it shows you what you are doing wrong with discipline, and how this negatively affects you and your child's relationship. It just makes sense. It works. I had to recommend it.
